Most fires around these parts begin with, like you said, smoking in bed and people trying to heat their homes in not-well-thought-out ways is a nice way to put it. I know people get cold, but bringing your outside grill inside is not a bright idea. Lighting your inside fire with fuel is very dumb, to say the least. People do all sorts of things to try to keep warm.
